Hurricane Ophelia Nearly Hits CheckOnMe.org
...administrative offices located in Outer Banks

Monday, September 19, 2005: Hurricane Ophelia, a category 1 storm, just missed us when it came through the Fairfield/Lake Mattamuskeet area of Hyde County, North Carolina last week -- home of the CheckOnMe.org administrative offices. Our nearby island, Ocracoke, was evacuated and hit directly. Storms and winds around 45 mph were all that we experienced, as the northeastern edge of the storm came through. We lost some of the pecan crop from our 100 year old orchard at Cedar Brook Farms, but as long as we do not get any more of these storms, we should see some lovely pecans in November.

"It was a slight setback," states CheckOnMe.org founder, Steffanie Lynch, "but not enough to keep us from getting the first phase of this service online as quickly as possible. Having been hit directly with Isabel, a category 3 hurricane, on September 18th 2003 -- we are getting use to preparation for these natural events."

"From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me..."
